Landscaping Worker - Garden Center
Landscaping Worker - Garden Center - Norfolk, VA. Enjoy a rewarding and challenging position with a nonprofit organization helping educate, train, and provide employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities since 1955. We are currently seeking applicants for our Landscaping Worker position, which will assist with independently completing tasks and operating all power equipment needed to maintain lawns, planting beds, shrubs, trees, roads, and parking areas.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
The following duties and responsibilities represent the essential functions of this job that an individual must be able to perform with or without a reasonable accommodation:
- Mows all lawn areas using push, ride, and zero-turn mowing equipment
- Trims and edges lawns, roads, and walkways using power edgers/trimmers
- Rakes up and moves all branch and leaf fall to centralized composting areas
- Uses backpack blowers and sprayers daily
- Conducts preventive maintenance/minor repairs on all power equipment
- Ensures that all safety regulations are followed and promptly reports accidents, critical incidents, and injuries
- During inclement weather, assists with inside building maintenance activities
- Attends service training, meetings, and workshops as required
- Other duties as assigned
- No travel required
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION, & EXPERIENCE:
The following qualifications represent the training, education, certifications, licensures, and/or work experience required to perform the essential duties and responsibilities successfully:
- Capable of following instructions and meeting standards for quality and timeliness of job duties
- Basic knowledge of landscaping techniques and safety practices
- Effective oral and written communication skills
PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Physical demands: Performing the duties of this job requires near visual acuity, the ability to hear, understand, and distinguish speech and/or other sounds, and gross manipulation. Additionally, the employee:
- Must be free of tuberculosis in a communicable form
- Must be able to lift/move 50 pounds and withstand prolonged hours of standing
- Must be able to bend through a full range of motion, lift, stretch, climb, and crawl
- Must be able to maintain all personal care needs, including medication management during work hours
Work environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be outside in all types of weather with exposure to dust, dirt, insects, and chemicals. Must be able to withstand extreme fluctuations
